TV Cable

If you enjoy sports but don't want to pay the high cost of cable, there are now some excellent options for viewing ESPN, major league baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, and other sports at a fraction of the price of cable.

Sling TV, a scaled-down TV subscription service, gives you a few channels for a tenth of the price of full cable TV and with less hassle.

So, here's how to watch sports without paying a fortune for full-fledged cable television.

Free Broadcast TV allows you to watch local and national sports.

Always start with the most cost-effective options, and free broadcast television works well for many people. With a simple indoor antenna, you can probably catch all of the main networks as well as local stations if you reside in a big city. You'll be able to watch many home games as well as significant athletic events such as the Super Bowl, World Series, and NBA playoffs, as well as some college basketball and football games.

If you have a modern television, all you need to do is purchase a nice antenna and connect it directly to your television to receive those channels. You'll need a converter box if you have an old tube TV.

Except for a few games, Dodger baseball has been blacked out on ordinary cable and broadcast TV in Los Angeles. The Spectrum SportsNet LA service is required to watch the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Watch NFL games on your mobile device.

You can watch live local and primetime games on your phone for free by downloading the NFL App for iOS and Android.

On CBS All Access, you can watch the NFL, NCAA Basketball, and PGA Golf.

CBS All Access, CBS's streaming service, allows you to watch the NFL, NCAA Basketball, and other sports. The cost is $5.99 per month with restricted ads or $9.99 per month without advertising.

On Sling TV, you can watch ESPN.

Sling TV offers ESPN for $25 a month if you are an ESPN fan. ESPN and ESPN2 are available, as well as AMC, A&E, and the History Channel. To watch it, you'll need an Internet connection as well as a computer, an iOS device, or a set-top box like a Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Xbox One. Once you're signed up, you'll get full access to ESPN, just as you would if you had cable, but at a fraction of the price!

Sling TV only works on one device at a time unless you pay $40 a month for their Orange+Blue service. They provide cloud-based recording for $30 per month if you wish to record shows.

If you don't need ESPN, check out Fubo TV.

Fubo TV began as a soccer-only streaming service, but it has now expanded to include a wide range of channels. Fox, Fox Sports, Fox Prime Ticket, Fox College Sports, NFL Network, NFL Red Zone, Big Ten Network, FS1, CBS, NBC, TNT, and others are among the sports networks available for $45 per month.

Cycling, international sports, outdoor adventure sports, Spanish soccer, and other sports packages can be added. These can cost anywhere from $6 to $15 more every month. There is a built-in cloud DVR with extended recording time available for a fee.

The significant drawback is that Fubo TV does not yet offer ESPN or any other Disney-owned networks. Check it out if the other channels don't work for you.

Watch Live Sports Without Cable TV

TennisTV Online is a great place to watch tennis.

TennisTV offers many different streaming options. You can pay $14.99 per month or $119.95 for the entire year as of this writing. TennisTV is the ATP World Tour and WTA's official live video streaming service. The Grand Slams, however, are not available on TennisTV.

Subscription Services Allow You to Watch Major League Sports

Subscription services for major sports leagues allow you to view some or all games live online using your computer or a variety of Internet-connected devices (such as your phone, Roku, etc.) This is a pricey alternative if you enjoy numerous sports, but if you only enjoy one, such as hockey, the cost is substantially cheaper than cable!

Fans of football (specifically, American football) can watch NFL games online via NFL Game Pass. However, there are two major caveats: they only show games that are not broadcast in your local market (for those, use an antenna), and the games are not shown live - Sunday games are broadcast after all of the Sunday games have been played. The cost is $99.99 for the entire season.

As of this writing, MLB.TV (Major League Baseball) allows you to view every out-of-market Major League Baseball game for $50 per year. You can't see your local team if you're "out-of-market."

For $9.99, you can watch the full previous year's NHL season on NHL.tv. For information on plans for the current season, visit their website.

The NBA's online streaming service is known as NBA League Pass. For pricing and availability, go to the website.

Watch soccer on Sling TV International's Sports TV.

Check out Sling TV International's Sports TV package if you enjoy international sports like soccer or cricket. You may watch amazing international games on beIN Sports, Willow Cricket, One World Sports, Universal Sports, and a few other channels for only $10 per month. For soccer lovers, this is big! (Please note that this service is only offered in the United States.)

On YouTube TV, you can watch ESPN and local channels.

Depending on where you reside, YouTube TV allows you access to a variety of sports cable channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports, and others, as well as certain local stations. It's also compatible with most streaming devices and mobile phones.

Online Live Streaming of Special Sporting Events

Check the event's website for streaming choices for special events like the US Open or the Olympics. In the past, these events were broadcast live on the internet for free!

Sports Bars are great places to watch games.

Even if you just watch a few games per month, going to a sports bar is still less expensive than cable TV! It's also usually more enjoyable to see with a large crowd.

Summary

So, we hope you find any of these suggestions useful! Naturally, if you subscribe to all of them, it will be very expensive, but if you only buy one or two, it will be less expensive than cable.
