Xfinity Internet is a brand name that most of us are familiar with. It's well-known, dependable, and an all-around excellent cable TV provider. Is it, however, worth the total cost at the checkout? The monthly price doesn't appear to be too difficult to swallow at first... But wait until you see the list of charges. This TV provider, however, is number one because it offers a good dollar-to-channel ratio and is the most widely available cable TV provider in the United States. Let's get into the details of Xfinity's contract, channels, and awesome DVR without further ado.

In terms of pricing and channel selection, Xfinity is about average. To begin, let's clear up the price situation: the first two packages (Extra and Preferred Plus) require you to sign a one-year contract, while Digital Starter and Preferred don't. Now, Xfinity is a little more costly than Spectrum and Cox when it comes to the basic package, but you get the most bang for your buck with Xfinity.
Xfinity's Extra package includes more than 140 channels, while other rivals' entry-level packages do not include that many. You won't find another reputable cable TV provider that provides 220 channels for less than $100 unless you live in one of the four states where Optimum is available. Because Xfinity is a reputable company that provides all of the popular channels, we recommend signing the contract to save $240–$360 over the course of the year.
Plan | Price | TV Channels |
---|---|---|
Extra | $49.99* | 140+ |
Preferred Plus | $59.99* | 220+ |
Digital Starter | $70.99† | 140+ |
Digital Preferred | $89.49† | 220+ |
Xfinity also offers international packages and add-ons! (You’ll find these options at checkout).
It’s 2021. It’s about time a TV provider offered international packages or add-ons for the following languages:
Israeli
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Portuguese
Russian
South Asia
Spanish
Vietnamese
Arabic
Brazilian
Chinese
Filipino
French
German
Greek
Okay, this is by far the most comprehensive list of changes we've ever seen from a television provider.
And if you're a typical cable TV viewer, you'll probably have to pay all of the fees listed in the table below.
A TV box ($5/month), a second TV box ($10/month) for the TV room downstairs, HD channels ($10/month), DVR storage ($15/month), news channels ($15/month), and sports channels ($9/month) are all required.
As a result, expect to pay an extra $65 per month. WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Other TV providers do not charge such exorbitant fees, so this could be a deal-breaker. DISH offers 125 HD hours of DVR storage and does not charge for broadcasts or regional sports.
But, oh, Xfinity includes a free self-installation kit as well as shipping. The installation fee for certain services can be as high as $100, so that's a nice bonus.
Xfinity has some fancy names for their bundles
Choice TV Select Double Play for $39.99/mo.
X1 Saver Pro+ Double Play for $79.99/mo.
X1 Preferred Pro+ Double Play for $104.99/mo.
The Extra package includes the majority of your favorite channels, as well as... It's possible that you won't want to upgrade.
Most, if not all, of the channels you'll want, are included in Xfinity's entry-level packages (Extra and Starter). And, let's face it, we enjoy a wonderful variety.
However, you should be aware that upgrading to the Preferred Plus or Digital Preferred packages may not be necessary.
Many of the excellent channels from the entry-level packages are not included in the higher-tier packages, according to Xfinity.

All of your premium channels are available through Xfinity. That convenience is appealing to us.
You won't have to miss a single episode of Westworld, Power, Shameless, Warrior, or any other show with a single word.
There is a contract with Xfinity, so it is more advantageous than you would think.
If you sign a one-year contract, you'll save $20–$30 per month for the first year. That, we think, is a big deal.
However, even though Extra and Preferred Plus save you money the first year, normal pricing will be applied to your bill for the second and subsequent years. We'll give you an estimate of how much you'll need to set aside for the coming year.
How much is Xfinity during year two?
Plan | Monthly price (year one) | Monthly price (after year one) |
---|---|---|
Extra | $49.99/mo. | $70.00/mo. |
Preferred Plus | $59.99/mo. | $88.50/mo. |
Digital Starter | $70.99/mo. | $75.49/mo. |
Digital Preferred | $89.49/mo. | $93.99/mo. |
All of these options will be available at the checkout, but there are a few things we can tell you ahead of time (since some add-on channels may be dependent on your location):
Five Spanish-language sports channels are available on Deportes.
The NFL RedZone Channel, NFL Network, NBA TV, MLB TV, NHL Network, Turner Classic Movies (TCM), and more are included in Xfinity's More Sports & Entertainment add-on.
Simply put, if you're a big fan of the NFL, MLB, or NBA, you'll need the Preferred Plus or Digital Preferred package.
With a total of 14 sports channels, you'll get all of your main sports channels, but unlike most TV providers, you'll lose some sports channels when switching from one package to another.
With the Extra and Digital Starter package, you'll get six awesome sports channels, including ESPN, ESPN 2, and FS1, that you won't be able to live without.
Xfinity’s Extra and Digital Starter packages include the following sports channels:
PAC-12 Network
Tennis Channel
ESPN
ESPN2

NBC Sports Network
Golf Channel
Xfinity Preferred Plus and Digital Preferred packages include the following sports channels:

Olympic Channel
