Xfinity

Xfinity Streaming App: XFINITY Stream
Available for iOS and Android

Pros:

The Xfinity Stream app features a fantastic, user-friendly layout.

Compatibility with Apple Watch—You may use your watch as a remote control. This is ideal for fast-changing the station without having to take your phone out of your pocket.

Offline Playback with Cloud DVR—You can download your Xfinity X1 DVR recordings and watch them offline, making the app ideal for road trips or flights where you don't want to pay for Wi-Fi.

Cons:

On-the-Go Channel Access—You can only stream your whole channel lineup if you're connected to your home Xfinity Wi-Fi network.

No built-in remote—To control playback if you don't have an Apple Watch, you'll need to download the independent Xfinity TV Remote app (iOS/Android).

Spectrum

Spectrum Streaming App: Spectrum TV
Available for iOS and Android

Pros:

Spectrum has an iPad and Android tablet app that allows you to enjoy the game on the go.

Easy-to-use and effective search tool—Finding your favorite show is a breeze using the app's search function.

Parental Controls—You may configure parental controls for your DVR from the app.

Cons:

Poor Reviews—The Spectrum TV app has a low aggregate rating. Lack of available channels and frequent downtime are common complaints.

Channel Lineup Is Incomplete—Because channel availability varies by market, some of your favorite channels may be missing.

Frontier

Frontier Streaming App: FrontierTV
Available for iOS and Android

Pros:

iPad compatibility—app Frontier's is iPad compatible, so you can make the most of your large screen. If there's one thing iPads excel at, it's consuming media.

Parental Controls—Using the Frontier app, limit the programming your children can view, so they aren't exposed to anything inappropriate.

Cons:

Lack of Features—The Frontier mobile app is currently lacking in features. The business claims that more features will be added soon. However, the software is currently lagging behind the competition.

DVR Management is Not Available on iOS Devices—Unfortunately, DVR management tools are presently only available on Android devices.

DIRECTV

DIRECTV Streaming App: DIRECTV
Available for iOS and Android

Pros:

Apple Watch App—With Apple Watch, you can control your TV from your wrist.

Simple Video Transfer—Easily transfer video from your device to your television and resume where you left off.

Premium Content—The DIRECTV app includes the most recent blockbusters from HBO® and Cinemax®.

Cons:

Slow Operation—During regular use, users have reported that the app is slightly sluggish.

Specific Equipment Requirements—You'll need a particular model of Genie DVR to use the DVR streaming functionality (the internet-connected HR44 or better, to be exact). Customers who have DVRs from other manufacturers are out of luck.

Optimum

Optimum Streaming App: Optimum
Available for iOS and Android

Pros:

Complete Parental Controls—Right in the app, you can set limits on what your children can view.

On-Demand Content—On-demand content is available on the move in both free and premium formats.

Rating and Recommendation System—The Optimum app allows users to rate programs, which aids in the creation of personalized TV show suggestions.

Cons:

Interface Is Underwhelming—The app's color choices and overall appearance are a little underwhelming. On phones, especially in the guide, very little information is provided.

Poor Reviews and Complaints—The app has a low rating on iTunes, with much of the complaints concentrating on freezes and the inability to watch TV. Because these difficulties do not affect everyone, your results may vary.

DISH

DISH Streaming App: DISH Anywhere
Available for iOS and Android

Pros:

DISH allows you to download DVR recordings from your Hopper DVR to your phone and watch them offline.

Full DVR Control—You can manage your entire DVR library from the app.

DISH offers Android tablet software that allows you to watch TV on a larger screen than your phone while being portable.

Cons:

Occasional Playback Issues—A few users have complained about choppy playback and poor performance, but this does not appear to be a widespread problem.

Like the DIRECTV app, DISH's app requires a specific DVR model to upload DVR recordings for offline viewing. It's a Hopper DVR with built-in Sling TV functionality in this example.

Cox

Cox Streaming App: Cox Contour
Available for iOS and Android

Pros:

Great Channel Guide—On smartphones, the guide offers a clear, clean structure that makes finding the show you want to watch simple.

Movie Rentals—With the Cox Contour app, you can watch rented or purchased movies on your mobile device, which is ideal for long flights or simply relaxing on your back porch.

Customizable Guide—You may simply filter the types of programs that appear in your guide, making it a breeze to select what you want to watch.

Cons:

On-the-Go Channel Selection Is Limited—Full-channel access requires a Cox Wi-Fi connection. You only receive a restricted amount of channels when you're not at home.

The layout that works so well on phones doesn't translate well to tablets. Although it is readable, there is a lot of wasted space in the design, particularly in the channel guide.

Services That Provide Live Streaming

Both live and on-demand streaming services are available for relatively inexpensive fees. We've compiled a list of providers that can deliver quality TV to you wherever you are, whether you want to cut the cord completely or just supplement your usual TV subscription.

Netflix

Netflix has established itself as one of the streaming monarchs. Even though Netflix does not broadcast live television, it does have a number of fantastic original shows, such as Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Cobra Kai. The Netflix app, in our opinion, is in desperate need of a facelift, but it still works.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video is an on-demand video streaming service that feels more like a perk of Amazon Prime than a standalone streaming juggernaut like Netflix or Hulu. Sure, it has outstanding shows and movies like The Boys and Sound of Metal, but its emphasis on quantity over quality falls short of its competition.

HULU+

When it comes to streaming, Hulu + Live TV delivers the best of both worlds, showing its biceps in both on-demand video streaming and live TV streaming. If you don't need all the bells and whistles, a simple Hulu membership will allow you to view TV shows a day or two after they air.

SlingTV

Sling TV is more like a traditional cable subscription than Netflix. It's a fantastic choice for cord-cutters, though if you already have a cable subscription, it's a touch redundant. Instead of requiring a complete subscription to a bunch of material, you'll never view, Sling TV provides smaller packages of channels. The prices are also not very fair.

YoutubeTV

YouTube TV is a live TV streaming service that uses the familiar YouTube interface. If you're a cord-cutter looking for high-quality channels at a low cost, YouTube TV is the option for you. One of the reasons we called it the best overall live TV streaming service is that it offers unlimited cloud DVR storage.
